MY JOURNEY TO SLAUGHTER AND MAY

I originally joined the firm on the Commercial Academy programme in 2021. After university, I tried a few different jobs, but 2020 gave me the chance to reflect on my career direction and next steps. I realised I wanted to work at a large professional services firm and gain as much experience as possible, so the graduate programme felt like the perfect fit.

During my time on the programme, I sat for six months in both the Global Client Development and Marketing and Communication teams. Afterwards, I moved into a full-time role as Digital Data Executive. Over the two years in that position, I gained so much experience working on digital transformation projects, delivering on marketing campaigns and working with a multitude of people from across the firm. These experiences showed me that campaign marketing—where I can use my creative, analytical and project management skills—is what excites me most. In April 2025, I was promoted to Marketing Insights Manager, a role that brings all these skills together.

MY DAY-TO-DAY

As Marketing Insights Manager, my role is very varied and every day is different - one day, I could be working with our production team on a podcast recording with our lawyers, the next day I could be copywriting to deliver a campaign or working on the performance analytics of recent campaigns. Some periods of the year are incredibly busy and we have a lot to deliver, but I really enjoy the variety of my role and the people across the firm who I work with.

One of the most memorable highlights was delivering a big digital transformation project. I spent most of my time as an Executive working on the project, working closely with the firm’s Technology team to scope out requirements and with the Business Development team on data tidy up and testing systems. I learnt a lot - from project management to stakeholder management, and it was a huge day for all involved when it was delivered!

Our employee networks are an amazing way to come together with colleagues across the firm and work towards a collective and meaningful goal.

COLLECTIVE ENDEAVOUR IN ACTION

Outside of my day to day role, I’m also co-chair of the Thrive network. Our employee networks are an amazing way to come together with colleagues across the firm and work towards a collective and meaningful goal. We have delivered events, podcasts and resources for employees as part of Thrive, and I’m really proud of the community we’ve developed and work we have delivered.

MY ADVICE TO CANDIDATES

What drew me to work at Slaughter and May was the diversity of work I could get involved with - four years on, I’m happy to say that my first impression remains true. I’ve also had some incredible mentors during my time here, who have guided me through my two promotions. If you’re thinking of applying to a role - do it, working here has developed my early career immensely.
