Today marks an important milestone in the move out of the third COVID lockdown, and towards a greater return to the workplace.
The legal restrictions preventing us from attending the workplace unless it is not “reasonably possible” to work from home no longer apply. Instead, we now have legal restrictions on gatherings, unless these are “reasonably necessary” for work purposes. However, the government’s guidance remains that people should continue to work from home wherever possible, at least for the time being. Reviews into the guidance on working from home, social distancing and COVID-secure workplace guidance are underway, and expected to report their findings by early June.
The pandemic has resulted in a large part of the nation working in different ways and from a different place. As a result, many employers are now beginning to consider what the future world of work looks like, and how best to structure their workforce for the post-lockdown era.
Over the coming months we will produce a series of briefings and podcasts, examining legal and cultural factors which employers will need to consider when designing their new working patterns. The content will be wide-ranging and focus on factors including:
- Employee vaccinations and COVID-secure workplace guidelines
- Social cohesion and the impact on workplace culture
- Adapting cyber security policies to fit hybrid working models
- The importance of building ESG considerations into new working patterns
