Empowered

Empowered is the firm’s disability and health network, which represents those with visible and hidden disabilities, neurodiversity, long-term health conditions, carers, and allies.

Empowered is the firm’s disability and health network, which represents those with visible and hidden disabilities, neurodiversity, long-term health conditions, carers, and allies.

It is a forum in which employees can share their experiences and advice, as well as to help raise awareness of disability and health inclusion across the firm. We want everyone to feel empowered to bring their whole selves to the workplace.

The Empowered Network aims to continue to raise awareness and advocate for neurodiversity, carers and visible and hidden disabilities and long-term health conditions.

The Empowered Network provides a supportive forum and advocates for all individuals with visible and hidden disabilities, neurodiversity, long-term health conditions, carers and allies. We raise awareness by organising firm and network events throughout the year both educational and social, and sometimes in conjunction with other networks. There is no “one-size-fits-all” when it comes to disability and I joined the Network to meet friendly, diverse and likeminded individuals, passionate about disability inclusion and a welcoming workplace. Disability History Month – January 2024

Daniel Aherne Empowered also organised a firmwide workshop with Daniel Aherne, author of ‘The Pocket Guide to Neurodiversity’, and founder of Adjust Services, which aims to create more inclusive workplaces for those who are neurodiverse. During this workshop, Daniel spoke about the various neurotypes, especially dyslexia, ADHD, autism and dyspraxia, common misconceptions and what firms can do to be more inclusive for people with diverse neurotypes. This further highlighted the importance of not making assumptions about those who are neurodiverse based on common stereotypes.

Network Dinner at Dans le Noir

Network Dinner at Dans le Noir Members of the Empowered Network were invited to dinner at the restaurant Dans Le Noir. Diners immerse themselves in complete darkness and are guided and served by a blind or partially sighted person. The restaurant aims to give diners “a moment of positive empathy that breaks our preconceived ideas of disability”.
