Supporting state-educated students and professionals

To ensure we attract the brightest minds regardless of where they study and boost access to the firm and sector in general, we are a member of The 93% Club and founding member of 93% Professionals which support state school-educated students and professionals.

The 93% Club is a student-run non-profit that aims to tackle class inequality by providing opportunities and a community for state school-educated university students across the UK. To help people thrive once in their career the charity launched an online and in-person network, 93% Professionals, in 2023.

Through our work with The 93% Club, which has over 7,000 members, we have hosted, sponsored and taken part in a number of events designed for state school-educated students, including a bespoke speaker panel with partners, associates and trainees from the firm; roadshows to help students enhance their personal and professional networks in cities such as Birmingham and Manchester; and the club’s Social Mobility Factories which feature CV workshops, careers fairs and the opportunity for students to get a LinkedIn headshot.

Slaughter and May’s support has been instrumental in creating a vibrant community where our members can thrive, offering everything from bespoke speaker panels and networking events to hands-on workshops and mentoring programmes. Through their engagement, we are making significant strides in tackling class inequality and empowering the next generation of talent. Sophie Pender, CEO and Founder, The 93% Club

As a founding member of 93% Professionals, we were involved in the network’s launch event which featured Slaughter and May Partner Andrew Jolly alongside panel representatives from other founding firms sharing their career journey and what more employers can do to support state-educated people in the workplace. Over 180 of the firm’s employees have signed up to 93% Professionals through which they are able to access a network of state-educated professionals via an online community or at flagship events. What’s more, they can also access a bank of mentors or sign up as a mentee or volunteer to support state-educated students and young professionals starting out in their careers or at partner schools and student clubs.
