Senior Counsel

Patricia has over 20 years’ specialist experience in the pensions legal sector.  She advises employers, trustees and insurers on all aspects of pension provision, including pension scheme transactions (scheme restructuring, derisking, benefit re-design), scheme funding, automatic enrolment, equal treatment requirements, drafting and interpretation of scheme rules, member complaints, and the pensions implications of corporate transactions.  She also has experience in relation to industry-wide and public sector pension schemes. 

Recent work highlights include: 

  • Railways Pension Scheme – advising the trustee in connection with the Court of Appeal stage of the litigation in RPTCL v Atos (2024), on matters relating to funding and interpretation of key scheme provisions
  • SCA UK Pension Plan – advice in connection with the Plan’s £1.1 billion full buy-in with Legal & General
  • Advising the trustees / sponsors of several large pension schemes on the implications of the decisions of the High Court and Court of Appeal in the Virgin Media v NTL Pension Trustees litigation

Patricia has a particular interest in pensions tax, and is a member of the specialist pensions tax group supporting the work of the Legislative & Parliamentary sub-committee of the Association of Pension Lawyers.
