Tim has a broad investigations and contentious regulatory practice, which spans a wide range of authorities, including the UK Competition and Markets Authority, the European Commission, theUK Financial Conduct Authority, theSerious Fraud Office and Ofgem.

Tim’s particular expertise includes advising major corporations and financial institutions in respect of antitrust, consumer protection, bribery and corruption, and regulatory investigations, as well as related advisory work. He also regularly acts for clients on competition litigation matters, including on competition damages actions before the High Court and Competition Appeal Tribunal and on regulatory appeals.

Experience in competition and market inquiry matters includes advising:

  • Coca-Cola Europacific Partners on a range of competition law matters
  • Google in relation to the European Commission’s antitrust investigation into its AdSense for Search advertising services
  • ITV on the Competition and Markets Authority’s investigation in relation to the purchase of freelance services in the production and broadcasting of sports content in the UK
  • Warner Music Groupin relation to the Competition and Markets Authority’s music and streaming market study.

Experience in competition litigation and contentious regulatory matters includes advising:

  • Banco Santander Totta in relation to a reference to the Court of Justice of the EU for preliminary ruling by the Portuguese competition tribunal
  • Northern Powergrid on both of its successful appeals to the Competition and Markets Authority against Ofgem’s electricity distribution price control decisions (RIIO-ED1 and RIIO-ED2)
  • Santander in relation to an application for a collective proceedings order in the Competition Appeal Tribunal regarding the use of discretionary commission arrangements for brokers in the motor finance industry
  • United Utilities in relation to proposed collective proceedings in the Competition Appeal Tribunal.
  • JPMorgan Chase Bank on cross-border investigations conducted by the FCA, DoJ, and other regulators worldwide in relation to alleged misconduct in the G10 spot FX market, and on the subsequent settlements.

Experience in consumer protection matters includes advising several clients on consumer law and greenwashing related claims

Experience of global investigations includes advising:

  • British American Tobacco plc in connection with its defence of the SFO’s investigation of suspicions of corruption in the conduct of business by BAT plc, its subsidiaries and associated person
  • John Wood Group on an investigation by the SFO into alleged bribery at certain AMEC Foster Wheeler companies it acquired in 2017 and strategic advice on parallel international investigations by the US, Brazilian and Scottish authorities.

Tim is recognised as a leading individual in Who’s Who Legal: Competition 2024 publication. Tim is recognised as a Next Generation Partner for Competition Litigation by Legal 500 2025.
