Slaughter and May is advising INEOS E&P A/S on the Project Greensand Carbon Capture Storage Pilot in Denmark

Slaughter and May is advising INEOS E&P A/S on Project Greensand, Europe’s first full chain carbon capture and storage pilot project. The project, led by INEOS and Wintershall Dea, is being supported by a consortium of 29 companies including major international companies and small Danish start-ups. Subject to a funding application, work on the project is intended to start by the end of 2021 with an offshore injection pilot to be carried out in 2022.

The aim of the project beyond the pilot phase is to permanently store up to 8 million tonnes of carbon dioxide per annum in the Siri area, a Danish offshore area operated by INEOS. This storage would be a major contribution to Denmark’s emissions targets for 2030.
