Slaughter and May advised Smith Financial Corporation (“SFC”), the family holding company of Canadian entrepreneur and investor Stephen Smith, on the acquisition by SFC and Stephen Smith of a 26.9% stake in The Economist Newspaper Limited from Lady Lynn Forester de Rothschild, other members of the de Rothschild family and associated companies.
The acquisition, which was subject to customary regulatory approvals, completed on 23 April 2026.
