Slaughter and May advises Tata Steel on a £500 million Grant Funding Agreement

Slaughter and May advised Tata Steel UK Limited (“Tata Steel”) on the £500 million bespoke grant funding agreement which was entered into on 11 September 2024 with His Majesty’s Government.

Securing this grant funding agreement is expected to enable Tata Steel to install a state-of-the-art Electric Arc Furnace at its Port Talbot steelworks in Wales, enabling the production of low carbon steel, enhancing re-use and circularity of steel scrap, and reducing the UK’s industrial carbon emissions by 8%, in one of the largest industrial transition projects currently being prepared in the UK.
